Frequently asked questions
Do stingless bees sting people?
No — the ong dú is a stingless bee, with no working sting at all. When disturbed they only fly around you or give a gentle, painless nip, so they are safe to keep at home, at schools and at tourism sites.
How is stingless bee honey different from ordinary honey?
Stingless bee honey is stored in resin pots the bees build themselves and ferments gently on its own, so it tastes crisply tart rather than heavily sweet; the yield is only about ~1/20 that of the honeybee, which makes it far more valuable.
How much honey does one stingless bee hive produce a year?
On average 300ml–1 litre/year depending on the strain and the source region — every honey batch records its source hive so you can trace it.
Is splitting colonies for propagation difficult?
It does take the right technique: choosing the moment a hive is "ready to split", then dividing queen cells and workers in the correct proportion. Our technical team transfers the entire process to partners, and every split is recorded in the hive's pedigree on the system.
What is the QR code on the hive for?
Every hive carries a lifetime QR code — scan it to see the care history, pedigree, status and the farm keeping it. Change owner or change farm, the history stays intact.
What support do I get when I buy a breeding hive?
Breeding hives are handed over with a QR record, setup guidance and the option of managed hosting at the farm with our technical team caring for them.
